Whirling Machines

As the only U.S. based source of whirling equipment, Leistritz uniquely combines leadership in this innovative technology with an extensive background in traditional screw, worm, extruder and auger cutting capability. Utilized by itself, whirling offers a decisive advantage in cutting threads, screw forms, worms… anything with a pitch. When integrated with other techniques, it creates a rich spectrum of total solutions. Examples would include incorporating whirling with milling, grinding, turning as well as material handling via automated systems.

Whirling and Grinding

With the whirling process, helical profiles can be processed very efficiently. In this process, an eccentrically positioned whirling ring rotates around the slowly rotating work piece - in most cases without the use of a coolant. This has the advantage that because of the specific way of cutting the majority of the cutting heat is discarded with the chips rather than heating up the workpiece. Further benefits: The whirling is designed so that optimal results can be achieved with low energy consumption for the machining. In addition, the workpiece surface does not undergo any changes due to compressive stress. It is possible to achieve a very high level of surface quality.

Leistritz provides a large selection of whirling machines for both internal and external whirling.
