Coolflow

More freedom in EV battery cooling.

COOLFLOW is an electric screw pump that circulates coolant through electric-vehicle battery cooling systems during driving and fast charging. Its air-handling capability, flexible mounting and speed-based coolant delivery create opportunities to improve system layout and simplify suitable cooling circuits.

Cooling-system design opportunities. Design the coolant loop around the vehicle.

Effective battery thermal management helps maintain the temperatures needed for reliable battery performance during driving and fast charging. COOLFLOW supports this function by circulating coolant through the battery-cooling system.

More freedom to place the pump

Air/liquid handling and installation in any mounting position can give designers more freedom to position the pump and route coolant lines within available vehicle space. Placement flexibility depends on allowable air content and a suitable vent path.

More predictable coolant delivery

Positive-displacement operation links flow primarily to pump speed, providing a basis for coolant-delivery control as circuit resistance changes. Actual flow response depends on coolant temperature, pressure and operating conditions.

A simpler cooling architecture

Where circuit requirements allow, one COOLFLOW may replace two centrifugal pumps, reducing components, wiring connections and mounting points. Suitability depends on your required flow paths, independent control and failure-response requirements.

Same duty point. Lower electrical input.

Lower pump energy demand supports the system business case. The supplied comparisons show 53.4% lower electrical input at highway cruise and 29.5% during DC fast charging, at matched flow and pressure. Bar lengths use a common scale of 0–350 W.

Potential savings across your cooling system.

Fewer components. Less assembly.

Where pump consolidation is feasible, fewer pumps, wiring connections and mounts can reduce purchased components and assembly work. Total installed savings depend on circuit changes, pump pricing and development and validation costs.

Lower energy demand during operation

Lower electrical input at the demonstrated duty points reduces the energy used to circulate coolant. Energy savings over your vehicle’s operation depend on time spent in each driving and charging mode.

Could your cooling system do more with fewer components?

COOLFLOW offers an opportunity to improve packaging and reduce system complexity while meeting your coolant-delivery requirements. An application review can help you determine which benefits are achievable in your cooling architecture.

What engineers need to know.

No. At each compared operating point, the flow and pressure are the same for both technologies. The reduction is in electrical power consumed to deliver that duty.

Potentially. A single COOLFLOW may serve a suitable circuit, provided the arrangement meets your flow-path, control and failure-response requirements. Your circuit needs application-specific validation before consolidation can be confirmed.

To assess whether COOLFLOW meets your cooling-system requirements, please provide:

  • Coolant type, temperature range and expected gas content
  • Required flow, pressure and operating duration during driving and charging
  • Cooling-circuit layout and current pump arrangement
  • Electrical supply, control interface and failure-response requirements
  • Available installation space
  • Qualification requirements and expected production volume

Leistritz will review these requirements to assess coolant compatibility and COOLFLOW’s suitability for your cooling duty cycle and system architecture.
